Two other Russians on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which was quarantined in Japan, were diagnosed with a new virus, the Russian Embassy in Japan.

According to the embassy statement posted on Facebook, the two are being taken to a hospital in Japan for treatment.

The Diamond Princess has been docked in Yokohama port near Tokyo since February 4 when 10 people on board tested positive for the virus.

To date, 621 cases of the COVID-19 virus have been confirmed on board among the original 3,711 Diamond Princess individuals.

In total, the outbreak of the virus living in China infected more than 75,000 people worldwide and killed over 2,100 people.

Russia has so far reported only two cases of the disease on its soil.

Two Chinese nationals diagnosed with the virus and hospitalized in two different regions of Siberia at the end of January have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals.

Earlier this week, the Russian embassy in Japan announced that a Russian on the Diamond Princess had been confirmed to have the virus.

It was originally reported that his wife also had the disease. However, the embassy officials later made it clear that she was hospitalized as a precaution because of the high risk of infection.
