3 ways to install an intelligent LED lamp – CNET

Wyze pear-2-720

There are tons of intelligent LED light bulbs Nowadays to choose from – and they're available in a range of styles and specifications to suit any smart home. Most of them connect through a local Wi-Fi network, your phone's Bluetooth connection, or a ZigBee hub, and each requires a slightly different setup process.

I bought some Wi-Fi enabled in the past week Wyze lightbulbs, Bluetooth enabled C by GE light bulbs and ZigBee capable Philips Hue light bulbs and spent a day installing and taking notes. Here is my quick and easy guide to installing a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Zigbee Smart lightbulb.

Wi-Fi enabled Wyze lamps cost only $ 8 each, which makes these white light LEDs great value for money.

The dimmable Wize LEDs with white light and white light from Wyze not only offer numerous functions at an affordable price, but are also easy to install.

1. Download the Wyze app and create an account.

Second Select "Add Product" from the menu in the top right corner of the home screen.

Third Select Wyze Bulb from the list of devices.

4th Make sure your phone is connected to your 2.4 GHz wireless network.

5th Screw in the light bulb and switch the device off and on three times. You are now in pairing mode (the lamp flashes).

6th Enter your WiFi name and password.

7th Connect to the Wyze Smart Bulb Wi-Fi network in your settings.

8th. Return to the app and the light bulb will be connected automatically.

That was it, you're done. The app prompts you to create a unique name for the light. You can then set up custom on-off schedules and connect your Wyze lamp (s) Alexa or Google Assistant,

The C by GE Soft White Smart Bulbs are available in packs of 25. Unlike the Wyze lamps, these GE LEDs are instantly connected via Bluetooth on your phone. How to get started:

1. Download the C by GE app and create an account.

2, Select the plus sign in the upper right corner of the home screen and then "Add new devices".

Third Select "Lights" from the list of devices.

4th Screw in the light bulb and turn on the light.

5th Wait a few seconds for the light bulb to blink three times.

6th Select "Go to C from GE App" and you're done.

If you want to control these LEDs outside the Bluetooth range, you have two other options. First, you can buy the C by GE C-Reach Smart Bridge for $ 50 – or you can use one Google Nest Smart Speaker or Display to act as a Wi-Fi hub for the light bulbs. C by GE light bulbs also work with Alexa and Siri about HomeKit, but you need a C-Reach hub.

Other Bluetooth enabled smart lamps:: Philips,

The Philips Hue White Zigbee lamps require an additional step as the Wyze and C from GE. It has a hub that Philips calls the Hue Bridge that connects to your WiFi router. A Hue Bridge is included in the Philips $ 70 Hue White LED double pack. Installation is still easy, but takes a few minutes longer (and I'm not a fan of the app).

1. Download the Philips Hue app and create an account.

Second Connect the Hue Bridge to your WLAN router and plug the adapter into a socket.

Third Screw in your light bulb and turn it on.

4th Select "Search" in the app and it will find your Hue Bridge.

5th Press the button in the middle of the Hue Bridge.

6th Your LED will be connected automatically.

The Philips Hue app is by far the most cumbersome of the three. The app asked me to share my home data so that, despite my lack of interest, I could always connect it to Siri and HomeKit (the lamps also work with Alexa and Google Assistant). Despite the additional step of the hub, they still establish a fast connection. And the app offers many functions, from dimming to planning, grouping and creating scenes.
