Amazon has confirmed that UPI for Amazon Pay for Apple iPhone users will be launched in India. This conformation comes after we reported yesterday that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now actually available for the Amazon Shopping app for the Apple iPhone (read report here). It's been almost a year since the Amazon Shopping app for Android got the UPI payment feature that allowed users to make payments through their UPI-linked bank accounts. "We are constantly looking for ways to make our customers' lives easier. To achieve this, we have expanded Amazon Pay UPI to iOS devices," said Mahendra Nerurkar, director of Amazon Pay, in a statement shared with News18 ,

To get the Amazon Pay UPI function on the Apple iPhone, you need to download and install the new Amazon India Online Shopping app from the App Store. You may be using the older Amazon – Shopping made easy app, which is also used in many other countries. The latter app does not allow UPI setup and directs you to download the Amazon India Online Shopping app before you can proceed with setting up and activating UPI payments for your Amazon account.

After logging in to the Amazon India Online Shopping app, you must select the "Set up UPI" option in the Amazon Pay settings. This then follows the standard method for verifying the SIM card in the iPhone at the time, the mobile phone number and the listing of the bank accounts registered with the mobile phone number. You select the account that you want to link to UPI. If you've already set up a UPI PIN for your account, the app will notify you and the setup will complete. If you need to set up the PIN, you can do so at this time. You will receive a XXX @ YPL UPI account. Amazon has partnered with Axis Bank for the UPI payment option for the iOS app.
The UPI payment option is now available as one of the payment options when you check out to complete the purchase of the items in the cart. The Amazon Pay UPI feature in the Amazon India Online Shopping app offers a variety of options: you can make payments for purchases from Amazon India, scan a QR code, send money, and request money.
UPI was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and is regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The UPI platform recorded 1.3 billion transactions in December, according to the latest NPCI data. This corresponds to an increase of 111% compared to the same period last year and continues the steady increase of the previous months. Amazon competes with Paytm, PhonePe and Google Pay in India to name a few, and these popular mobile payment platforms also rely heavily on UPI as a payment method.
