Design and specifications by Amazon Echo Studio
Some of Amazon's newer Echo devices have experimented with design, but the Echo Studio remains familiar in appearance. The device has a cylindrical shape like the Echo (3rd generation), but is slightly wider and rounder at the top. It's huge too; With a height of 21 cm and a width of 18 cm, the studio is the largest echo speaker to date.
Apart from its dimensions, it is also very heavy at 3.86 kg. Weight only matters when placing, as this is a wired speaker that needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet for it to work and not to be moved frequently. The base of the Echo Studio is made of rubber, which means it stays securely in place. Like other Echo devices, the studio has a fabric coating on the outside and plastic on the top. The Echo Studio is only available in one color – black.
Another well-known element is the light ring, along with the four-button layout with which we are so familiar – increasing volume, reducing volume, microphone mute and action. On the back of the speaker are the power connector, a 3.5mm line-in connector and a micro USB connector, which is used for service functions and, if necessary, for a wired internet connection (with a dongle in between). There is an opening near the floor, which Amazon calls the "bass panel" and which exposes the subwoofer driver.
The Amazon Echo Studio is the company's most powerful speaker to date, and the arrangement of the drivers is impressive. There are five drivers – three 51mm midrange speakers that fire left, right, and forward. a 25mm tweeter that shoots up; and a 133 mm subwoofer that shoots down into the “bass aperture” mentioned above.
For connectivity, the device has Wi-Fi (A / B / G / N / AC) and Bluetooth and of course works with Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. All of Alexa’s features – streaming music, providing information, shopping online, various third-party skills, communication such as drop-in and voice calls – can all be used in Echo Studio.
With the Alexa app for your smartphone or tablet, you can easily set up the device. There's also a built-in smart home hub that allows you to use certain smart devices from brands like Philips, Anchor, Syska, Oakter, Wipro, TP-Link, and many more without the need for a separate hub. Conveniently, you can also connect the Echo Studio to an Amazon Fire TV wirelessly, so you can use the Studio for the sound instead of your TV speakers.
Amazon Echo Studio performance
The Echo Studio is considered the best-sounding Echo from Amazon and is sure to live up to this claim. We used the device for a few weeks before writing this review. Stream music from various services and watch TV shows and movies on a Fire TV Stick 4K, with the sound routed to the speaker.
Based on our experience with music streaming, the Amazon Echo Studio is, as claimed, the best sounding Echo device so far. The multi-driver configuration allowed for good frequency separation and the use of dedicated drivers meant that the sound was defined and properly separated across the entire range. We were also very impressed by the middle class. The three designated drivers skilfully mastered parts of the lows and highs.
When we heard Dance Wiv Me from Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris, we were particularly impressed with how clear and clear the vocals sounded. This is a typical garage grime dance number, and the special tweeter and subwoofer skillfully coped with the ups and downs in the track. We enjoyed the ride and excitement that Echo Studio brought to this peppy track.
The subwoofer is particularly powerful and the design of its panel ensures impressive depths. When we heard The Less I Know The Better by Tame Impala, we liked the rumble and expansion of the bass, which gave the sound a certain character and provided an impressive listening experience that we would expect from speakers that are a little more expensive than the echo Studio . It was able to get very loud and the sound stayed clean even at high volumes.
Another impressive aspect of the sound is its quality, even outside of the sweet spot. While most single-box speakers only sound good within sight of the speaker, the Amazon Echo Studio also sounded decent from a distance with walls in between.
The Amazon Echo Studio supports HD and 3D music as well as the music standards 360 Reality Audio and Dolby Atmos from Sony. Currently, none of these formats is officially supported by streaming services in India, so we have not been able to test them. Various sound formats, including Dolby Atmos, are supported, and this works with some content in India. We were able to use this feature when streaming video on Netflix on our Fire TV Stick 4K.
The Amazon Echo Studio comes into its own as a loudspeaker for television programs and films. The sound was certainly not comparable to what a good home theater system or even a working sound bar like the Sony HT-X8500 can do, but it was still decent. The experience was a significant improvement over what we heard from some of the TVs we recently tested, including the Mi TV 4X 55.
The sound is wide and spacious and works even in large rooms. The dedicated midrange drivers are well utilized in this way and offer clear and crisp voices, while the subwoofer helps to improve the atmosphere in action-packed TV shows and films. Perhaps the only real weakness of the Echo Studio is that it is a one-piece speaker and the stereo separation is not quite as powerful as with a proper two-channel setup. It is possible to connect two Echo Studio speakers in a stereo setup, but that would raise the price to Rs. 46,000.
However, the connection to our Fire TV Stick was not without problems. The setup was simple and the products can be used together without any problems. Despite a fast internet connection, especially with the YouTube app, there were occasional delays in the sound. Restarting Echo Studio and Fire TV Stick fixed this issue. However, it has occurred a few times.
When working properly, Amazon Echo Studio maintained a stable connection, and the volume of the Fire TV Stick was adjusted using the remote control for easy adjustments. Dolby Atmos didn't sound quite as impressive as on a real soundbar (or even an integrated soundbar like on the OnePlus TV Q1 Pro), but it felt a little wider and more detailed than using the base speakers on a TV.
The Echo Studio is able to listen to the & # 39; Alexa & # 39; wake-up word, and its microphones can pick up voice commands from distances and angles that we thought previously would not have been possible for an intelligent speaker. The device is also said to calibrate its sound based on the environment every few seconds, although we heard no significant evidence of this.
At Rs. The Amazon Echo Studio is the most expensive Echo speaker so far with 22,999. It is also the best so far and ensures a better echo experience than before. Although connecting an Echo speaker to a Fire TV Stick is not a new feature, this only really made sense in Echo Studio. The core Echo experience – that is, using it as an intelligent speaker for music – is also fun.
While the Amazon Echo Studio isn't quite as good as a decent multi-channel speaker setup or soundbar, it's far more powerful than anything else in the Echo range and sounds a lot better than any other smart speaker we've heard so far. The size, multi-driver setup, and full Alexa suite of features, as well as the fact that it works well with a Fire TV Stick, make this device a useful device that is justified for the price.
