Carrier makes everything from home HVAC systems to humidifiers, but the company may be best known for its range of thermostats. And today Carrier is expanding its range with two new intelligent thermostats, the Cor 5C and the 7C.

Like its competitors from Honeywell, Ecobee and Nest, the Cor 5C and 7C also have advanced controls that make them a little smarter than your average heat and A / C controller. Here's an overview of what the new Cor thermostats should do:

  • Estimate how much money you save on your monthly utility bill
  • Read the specific "thermal properties" of a home to achieve ideal temperature settings
  • Integration with Amazon Echo (

    $ 56 at Amazon

    ) and Apple HomeKit

While Carrier has not yet released specific pricing or availability information for its Cor 5C and 7C thermostat, the team is committed to reaching a wider audience with these products. Hopefully that means lower prices.

We have recently seen this trend with Carrier's competitors. Both Ecobee and Honeywell introduced cheaper smart thermostats for under $ 200 last year in the Ecobee3 Lite and Honeywell Lyric T5 (video below). Carrier's new thermostats actually look a lot like Lyric T5. Nest, on the other hand, is still selling a single thermostat model at the same price as ever – $ 249 (£ 249, not yet available in Australia).

Perhaps Cor's pricing helps address the same level as the latest Ecobee and Honeywell models. We just have to wait and see.
