South Korean automaker Kia Motors plans to periodically launch new models in India to take full advantage of the 3 lakh units currently installed by March 2022.

The company, which made a rapid start in the country with its first product Seltos, plans to launch two more models this year. He will be driving the Carnival luxury multi-purpose vehicle at Auto Expo, followed by a compact SUV later in the year.

Similarly, the company plans to launch two more products next year.

“We have already stated that we will launch a new model every six months. Our first goal is to fully utilize the installed production capacity, ”said Kia Motors India, Head of Marketing and Sales, Manohar Bhat PTI. By the time the goal is reached in 2022, about 4 to 5 models from the company's stable should be needed, he added.

The Kia Motors production facility in Andhra Pradesh has an installed production capacity that can deliver three lakh units per year in three shifts. The company currently operates two shifts at the plant.

In a comment to Carnival that was launched in Hyderabad, Bhat said the company would create a new segment with the model. “The carnival will be our role model in India. There is currently no comparable product in the country. It would meet the changing needs of the country's elite customers, ”said Bhatt.

Carnival is powered by a 2.2 liter diesel engine with a fuel efficiency of 13.9 km per liter.

"We will redefine the market with this product as well as with Seltos. The engine will be BS VI compliant from the start, ”said Bhat. When asked to comment on the model's sales expectations, he added that the company does not want to look at the model in terms of volume, but wants to demonstrate its capabilities in terms of quality and luxury.

The compact SUV model to be launched at Auto Expo and to be launched later this year is more of a volume cruncher for the company, he added. When expanding the distribution network, the company was already present at 265 contact points in 160 cities. Kia is now trying to consolidate in regions that are currently lacking presence, he added.
