Keto, paleo, vegan, low-carb, carb-free. Diets have come and gone, but it sounds like LeBron James' palate has not changed since childhood.
According to former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Tristan Thompson, the 35-year-old Akron native has "the worst royal diet ever".
"Ask him what he eats for breakfast," Thompson told The Athletic. “He's got five French toasts, drowning him in strawberry and banana syrup. Then he has an omelet with four eggs and then he goes and only fucks dunks on someone. That does not make sense. "
James' logic-contradicting diet seems to have had little impact on his longevity. He signed a four-year, $ 154 million contract with the Lakers in 2018. His extensive resume – apart from his well-known love for Taco Tuesday – includes 16 all-star selections, four MVP awards, three NBA championships and three NBA final MVP awards. Well into his 17th season, the 6-foot-9,250-pound star is on pace for another fantastic year, averaging 25 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.8 assists per game for the 41-12 leading Lakers of the Western Conference.
"He eats desserts with every meal," said Thompson. "He'll come with his week-long diet, vegan crap, but he literally eats as if it doesn't make sense. He's really a specimen. He eats as usual."
It is a departure from the strict diets of some other very successful athletes. Sweets and processed foods are anathema to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who feeds on a largely vegetable regime.
The 28-year-old Thompson even tried to imitate James' diet.
"I remember trying to eat the way he ate for a year and it just didn't work," Thompson said. "I put on weight and said," F-k this. "I mean, it works for him. He loves candy. He loves candy. He eats desserts and French toast. It's crazy how his body just burns it."
