The Giants season is over, but the search for a head coach to succeed Pat Shurmur is getting more intense. Jimmy Failla and I open the latest episode of the podcast "Blue Rush", which examines who might be suitable for the job. This includes discussing Jimmy's imagination that Bill Belichick will come back to coach the Giants.
We also looked at the crazy wild card playoff games that included bad coaching, no-calls, and Booger McFarland's brainfart. We also look at the spreads for the Divisional Round games and make our selection. Can Kirk Cousins win two street playoff games? Can Russell Wilson defeat Aaron Rodgers?
NY Post Giants defeated writer Paul Schwartz to identify the top candidates for the next head coach. Does Matt Rhule get the job? Jimmy and Paul are talking about Bill Belichick-to-the-Giants' idea and whether there is any remote chance that this will happen. Schwartz brought the heat to Dave Gettleman when he paid Eli Manning a shipload of money to eventually serve as a substitute only two games a season. They discuss the bizarre Giants GM press conference last week.
Giant's great Pepper Johnson then joins the pod. He speaks of winning two Super Bowls as players in the Giants and three as coaches in the Patriots. Is it better to win as a player than as a coach? He also talks about his new role as a defensive coordinator for the XFL wildcats, explains why he's excited for the XFL, and gives an outlook on his team. He also talks about the difference in coaching styles between Belichick and Bill Parcells. Pepper has spent more than a quarter of a century being trained by or alongside Belichick. He takes us into Belichick's brain, his manners and how he can be a joke at times. Nobody has worked with Belichick as long as Pepper.
