MIFF 2020: countdown for film festival begins, here's what you can expect


New Delhi: The 16th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF 2020) for documentary, short feature and animated films will open on January 28th at the Nehru Center Auditorium in Worli, Mumbai. The festival will be special in many ways. A variety of films are shown in competition sections, and the late actors of the documentary and animation genre are commemorated with special film screenings, aside from exhibitions to some of them. Animation lovers will also enjoy some special documentaries.

The MIFF attracts filmmakers from all over the world. This edition has received 729 entries in national and 144 in international competition from 24 countries.

The film festival offers a number of attractions such as a special package with films from the European Union, an animation package from Russia, Finland and the Balkans, films with Oscar nominations such as "Fauve", "Detainment" and "Night At The Garden". "Ireland" shows its best documentaries in the "Country Focus" section.

Curated films from the northeast, the best of various international film festivals and the cult films of the renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray will also be shown.

Films by students from institutes such as FTII / SRFTI / NID / FTIT / Srishti / Craft School / Whistlingwood also complete the list.

Other highlights include the IDPA Open Forum, the film editing workshop, the drone cinematography workshop, master classes from renowned animator Michael Dudok De Wit (Poland) and many more.

MIFF 2020 will also feature a sculpture and photo exhibition with a demonstration commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birthday and the 100th anniversary of Satyajit Ray.

Mrinal Sen, Ram Mohan, Bhimsain Khurana, VG Samant, Vijaya Mule and Manjira Datta are also commemorated by the screening of selected works and a specially curated exhibition.

A mobile app for MIFF was presented by Smita Vats Sharma, Festival Director, MIFF and DG, Films Division, at a press conference in the Mumbai Press Club. She said: "MIFF 2020 will be mobile. All information about the festival can be accessed via the mobile app. The MIFF app will make it easier for MIFF delegates to network and vote for films."

The MIFF 2020 will be concluded on February 3 with an award ceremony.
