NYCFC has found its next head coach.

After the separation from Domenec Torrent in November, the club announced in a press release on Monday that the former Celtic FC coach, Ronny Deila, has been appointed as the new manager. The Norwegian moved from Valerenga, where he has been working in his home country since 2017, to the MLS club with a three-year contract, for which approval of a US work permit is pending.

"When I was given the opportunity to work as the new head coach at New York City FC, it was a dream come true for me to run a great club in a great city," said Deila on the team's official website.

"When I come in, it is important to continue building on what has already proven to be a strong foundation and to spread some of my ideas. The way I want to play and how NYCFC played is very similar. I am a very offensive coach, we want the ball to be as good as possible, but we also want to try to be straight when you have those opportunities. ”

Deila won three championships as head coach, which led Celtic to two and also to the Norwegian club Strømsgodset – formerly a branch of the City Football Group, siblings of Manchester City. He is the fourth head coach in club history and the third European in a row to be called to the job.

"Knowing that a very strong group of players was returning in 2020, we wanted to hire an experienced coach who played in the same way as in previous years and is proven to be able to win championships and develop players." NYCFC Sporting Director David Lee said.

"We are very happy with the group of players we have brought back and are excited about the prospect of what this group can do, so we wanted to make sure we found the right head coach." We know that we have a fantastic team that we think is ready to win. Ronny is a winner. He won in Strømsgodset. He won at Celtic. We want to get trophies, and Ronny has done that in his career. "

NYCFC returns the majority of a team that has accumulated the most points in franchise history and completed last season at the Eastern Conference.

The team's preseason begins on January 11th.
