Saints Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans play the NFC wildcard round on Sunday.
The Saints, led by the dynamic combination of quarterback Drew Brees and receiver Michael Thomas, ended the race 13: 3 and won the NFC South. The Vikings were 10-6 and took second place on the NFC wildcard. Kirk Cousins had a high and low season at Quarterback, but has weapons, with Dalvin Cook and receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen lagging behind.
It's a rematch of one of the most memorable playoff games in recent history, where the teams meet for the second time since the Minneapolis Miracle. This happened in the division round of the postseason 2017, when Case Keenum Diggs threw a prayer while the Vikings ran 24-23 behind with a 10 second lead. Somehow, Diggs jumped, hooked up, avoided the cornerback of Saints Marcus Williams, and ran untouched into the end zone to give the Vikings a 29-24 victory over time.
The Saints would be heartbreakingly eliminated a year later, this time in the NFC Championship Game to the Rams. After the 20:20 draw in less than two minutes, the Saints drove into the red zone when the referee Nickell Robey-Coleman missed an obvious pass. The missed call forced the Saints to make do with a field goal instead of new downs before losing in extra time. It was outrageous enough to force the NFL to introduce a new rule that allowed coaches to challenge interference calls this season.
Surely the Saints will look for redemption this weekend. They enter the wild card round after winning three in a row and six of their last seven and barely miss a reunion in the first round. The Vikings ended the regular season with two division losses and missed the chance to win NFC North and win a home game in the first round.
