A customer at the popular Nusr-Et steakhouse in Miami, owned by the Instagram star known as Salt Bae, had the police call him after he disputed the huge $ 5,000 bill.

Duane Miranda said he was stunned after seeing the huge bill at the end of his group's luxurious food last month in the elegant restaurant, according to the Miami Herald.

Nusr-Et is known for its exclusive tomahawk fillets, in which the meat is cut performatively on the table. The restaurant's owner, Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe, performs the task himself on the nights he is in the city.

Gökçe earned the nickname of Salt Bae after going viral on Instagram for the culinary routine, in which he ingeniously cuts the meat and garnishes it with salt. The trick has made it a social and international sensation, and it has restaurants all over the world, including in New York City, Mykonos, Dubai and Istanbul.

But Miranda is now on a mission to expose Nusr-Et after his dramatic dispute with the restaurant.

"I think they are trying to victimize their customers," Miranda said. "It's a bait and a switch."

On December 28, 2019, Miranda and her group of three couples had dinner in Miami, where they ordered a pair of steaks and a lamb. When things are completed is when Miranda says that the staff insisted that they order the "golden" option, in which the meats are wrapped in a 24-carat edible gold leaf.

What Miranda did not know, he said, was that the gold option came with a surcharge, which cost $ 1,000 each. Standard tomahawk fillets are considerably cheaper at $ 275 each.

When the couples refused to pay until the manager adjusted the considerable bill, they called the police. The party ended up paying the bill to avoid further conflicts.

Miranda, who said he was "stunned" by the incident, has taken social media and several online review sites to call Salt Bae and his culinary empire.

In a publication, Miranda calls Gökçe a "piece of communist-loving garbage," apparently referring to the time when Salt Bae received and fed Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and honored Fidel Castro.

The restaurant meets the bill, noting that all its prices are clearly marked on its menus. The general manager, identified only as Oguz, also states that the couples threatened to leave without paying the bill.

“I have people with bills of $ 20,000; $ 30,000; $ 40,000 I never had this problem, ”he said.

Miranda said he is no stranger to spending a lot of money for services, including a children's night at a nightclub where they ordered bottles that cost $ 2,400. The difference, he says, is that Nusr-Et did not tell them about the surcharge.

This is not the first time that the restaurant encounters similar disputes.

According to reports, Miami police were called to the restaurant at least 12 times when a customer challenged an invoice. Indignant diners have also turned to social networks to post photos of their amazing receipts.

Miranda said that since then he asked American Express to dispute the charge.

As for what was left of the four-figure meal, Miranda said he took home the two axes of war ax that came with the steak, one of which was for his friend's dog. The other who plans to have tried to see if the remaining gold is 24 carats.
