Fitness sells smartwatches. That's what most players say in wearables, including Samsung. The new Samsung Gear Sport further improves fitness and adds some features that were overdue. It's not the same set of upgrades as last yearGet a smartwatch, but they're important.
The sport addsfor swimming, something that is quickly becoming standard for wearables like that and the , Samsung says it's salt and fresh water ready.
The name "S3" no longer comes from Gear Sport, but was developed to fit somewhere between the Gear S3 and the LTE-equipped S3 from last year. This time it's smaller, except for the 42 mm of the S2 instead of the massive 46 mm of the S3. Heart rate tracking, GPS and a rotating control bezel are still available.
It also looks like offline Spotify music is finally done. The Gear S3 promised offline playable music playlists on TV a year ago, but that never happened. The Gear Sport can store 500 Spotify songs on the watch.
In addition to Gear Sport, some new fitness apps will be available that also work with the same apps as other Gear S2 and S3 watches. A new Speedo app records swimming, while an improved Under Armor app records calorie intake and adds typing tools on the watch.
The watch has brought tricks together for the Samsung ecosystem: it can connect to Samsung Connect to control IoT devices, and it can be a wrist remote control for Samsung Gear VR, which is somethingyears.
The Gear Sport costs $ 300 in the US and £ 299 in the UK, which is about AU $ 500. There is no specific release date either, but the watch will be available this fall.
