MUMBAI: The S&P benchmark BSE Sensex opened flat and lost around 100 points, while Nifty was lower at 12,122 than the markets opened on Friday.
By 9:30 a.m., the Sensex at 41273.41 had dropped by about 100 points and the Nifty at 12126 by 12 points.
Approximately 420 shares rose, 211 shares fell, and 38 shares remained unchanged.
Held MotoCorp, Zee Ent, NTPC, Yes Bank, Wipro, Titan, HCL Tech and Bajaj Auto were the main winners of the indices, while Eicher Motors, Kotak Mahindra Bank, L&T, BPCL and Power Grid were the top losers.
In Sensex shares, Hero MotoCorp rose 3% after the motorcycle maker saw a 14.5% profit increase in December, largely due to a sharp drop in tax expense.
In the last four sessions, the Sensex had risen by 1,500 points.
Asian markets declined moderately on Friday after a week-long rally as investors took profits and assessed developments in China's deadly coronavirus crisis. Strong US data and China's stimulus measures boosted stocks after last week's sell-off.
