Experienced actor Shabana Azmi was seriously injured in an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Express in the Raigad district of Maharashtra this afternoon. Her husband Javed Akhtar was also in the car but had no injuries, the ANI news agency reported.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near Khalapur, about 60 kilometers from Mumbai, when the 69-year-old actor rammed a truck from behind in the SUV Tata Safari.

The impact resulted in the passenger side of the SUV being completely destroyed. A photo shows the bonnet of the car crumpled and the radiator and bonnet destroyed.
Shabana Azmi has been admitted to the MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai and is currently under treatment, said PTI news agency Raigad Superintendent of Police Anil Paraskar.
According to the IANS news agency, the patrol teams have hurried to investigate the scene of the accident.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is the country's first six-lane, access-controlled concrete road.
