Kyrie Irving said it was "glaring" that the nets would need another piece – beyond Kevin Durant – to become a championship candidate and said he would keep repeating this point.
What remains unclear is which additions he wishes, which teammates need to be replaced and to whom he will repeat it.
His boss, general manager Sean Marks?
His boss, team owner Joe Tsai, who said the nets already have the pieces to win a title?
Whatever the case, Irving implied that when he selected the nets, he and Durant knew that they were one or two short bodies.
"It's just something we signed up for. We knew what we were aiming for earlier this season," said Irving late Wednesday night after the Nets defeat at Philadelphia (117: 106). "Boys went left for us and right down. [Garrett Temple] is over [DeAndre Jordan] was just injured [in Wednesday’s game]Wilson [Chandler] is just coming back.
“We also have young people who have done a great job in the past three years. Overall, I feel like we have great pieces, but it's pretty blatant that we need one or two more pieces to complement me. [Durant], DJ, GT, Spence [Dinwiddie], Car is [LeVert]and we'll see how that develops. "
Irving rattled against six rotation players. And while leaving out Jarrett Allen, Joe Harris, and Taurean Prince, Allen and Harris matched the above "complementary young people who have done a great job in the past three years." $ 29 million renewal.
Irving's comments could be seen as an impetus for a move.
"It's out there. It's transparent," said Irving. "It's glaring. Regarding the pieces we need to have on the next level, I will repeat it again.
"We will do our best with the guys we have in our dressing room now, and we will take care of everything else, moving all parts and anything but organization down the line in the summer."
When the mail reached him about his reaction, Marks had no comment. But he had recently called the networks all in.
"There are a limited number of times and options that you can continue to add to your team. Do it better now," Marks told ESPN. "You are preparing for a run."
How much more upgrade the networks can do is up for debate. They are not widespread with accessible assets.
"Maybe the missing part starts with Irving and Durant on the pitch," ex-Nets assistant GM Bobby Marks tweeted. “This is not an MLB in which you can buy a $ 300 million pitcher. BKN has a fixed salary of $ 140 million in 20/21, and if you don't start selling important people, this is the list minus a few tweaks. "
Any optimizations will likely mess up the back of the list as Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot's new 10-day contract gives Mark flexibility before the close on February 6th.
In either case, Tsai doesn't sound like he agrees with Irving's assessment. He thinks the Nets have the talent to win a title.
"Absolutely. I think the fans expect us to win a championship. And the good thing is that I think we have the parts in place," Tsai said to JA. "Now we have some injuries and the people come back. But the basic parts are in place to maybe go all the way. "
The nets had no update from Jordan's slipped right middle finger. The Veterans Center was examined in New York on Thursday, and more information about the training was expected on Friday.
