Jammu:

A major tragedy was averted when an attentive policeman uncovered a cavity in a truck and brought three armed terrorists to the Kashmir Valley, the police said.

After the policeman discovered the cavity, there was an exchange of fire between the terrorists and the police.

The police officer was injured while all three terrorists were killed in the gunfire that broke out at a toll booth on the Jammu-Srinagar national road in Jammu.

The three terrorists belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Bhom Raj, a police officer from the Nagrota Police Station, who is used to control the Spell Toll Square, said he was unarmed and could not take revenge.

"Around 5:00 a.m., we intercepted a truck, JK03F-1478, to do a routine check. The driver, along with two other people, was sitting in the front seat of the truck telling us they were transporting medication and other items to Kashmir. But we were not satisfied, "said Raj.

Police and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel asked the driver and two others to remove the cover and open the truck door.

"I started checking the vehicle and saw a blanket and shoes near the gate. When I looked through the middle door of the truck, I became suspicious. I thought the truck was full of white bags, how come that blanket and shoes are there? " he said.

As soon as they removed the cover, some of the men who were hiding in the hollow started shooting at us, the policeman said.

"The CISF kicked back and shot a terrorist. The militants jumped into the gorge and disappeared into a dense forest," he said.

According to the police, the terrorist group is said to have been infiltrated from the International Border (IB) in Kathua District to carry out an attack.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh met the injured police officer in the hospital and praised him for his bravery.
