Xiaomi is preparing to introduce a successor to its popular Redmi K20 series. The new Redmi K30 was previously teased by the company and it seems that we finally have a launch date. Xiaomi will launch the new K30 series in China on December 10th. The new handset also comes with 5G support, which means it's the first Redmi series phone to offer the next-generation connectivity standard.

As already mentioned, Redmi GM Lu Weibing had an early look at the Redmi K30 at a presentation in China last month. The teaser of the upcoming phone was shown as a pinhole device with a dual camera setup in the upper right corner. This means that the handset can have almost no frames. Weibing also confirmed that the handset supports Dual 5G, which means that it works with both SA (standalone mode) and NSA (non-standalone) networks. For certain tasks, NSA relies essentially on the existing LTE infrastructure.

It is rumored that the handset has a display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which means that Xiaomi is on business this time. It is also rumored to start with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chip, and the Pro variant may rock the Snapdragon 855+. The handset is also said to have Sony's latest 60-megapixel IMX686 camera sensor and additional camera sensors for taking ultra-wide, telephoto and macro photos. While we expect a built-in fingerprint sensor, rumor has it that the Xiaomi Redmi K30 will have a side fingerprint sensor instead. The handset should have a similar price to that of the Redmi K20 series and may compete with the recently launched Realme X2 Pro and OnePlus 7T.
